On Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 6:30 PM authors Charles G. Irion and Ronald J. The Summit Murder Mystery series was inspired by the 1987 Everest attempt by co-author Charles G. Irion and later his 2011 Kilimanjaro climb. Meeting Dr. Andrew Weil M.D.

On Friday November 2nd, I met Dr. Andrew Thomas Weil, M.D.!  He is the founder, professor, and director of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona.  A very cool guy!  I gave him a copy of Roadkill Cooking for Campers when I saw him; he said he loves the cover.  I was thrilled to get his book, True Food: Seasonal, Sustainable, Simple, Pure.

New Book Review - Murder on Everest

Very excited to share this amazing review with you from The Indie Bookshelf of Murder on Everest.  Murder on Everest is the first book in the Summit Murder Mystery series.

In Murder on Everest when Derek Sodoc, only son of the world's richest and most powerful man dies attempting to climb Mt. Everest, questions are raised. Was it the mountain that sealed his fate? Or perhaps something more sinister?  After reading the book Abandoned on Everest that details Derek Sodoc's untimely death, Sodoc's father convinces the surviving expedition members to return to Everest - presumably to recover Derek's body. With billions at stake and a relentless father searching for someone to blame, everyone is a suspect. Set against the backdrop of the world's highest and deadliest mountain, Murder on Everest is filled with intrigue, sex, betrayal and mystery. It is unlike any murder mystery you've ever read.

 I have no desire to climb the tallest mountain in the world, but after reading this book, I have somewhat of  an idea of what a climber goes through. The authors of this book described the perils and experiences perfectly while adding a murder mystery to keep you guessing right until the very end. Both authors did a great job of explaining the terms used in the book so you weren't confused. Each scene was described so realistically, and I was really intrigued and amazed by some of the dangers these climbers experienced.

Now, on to the murder mystery part....this book has a murder and no one knows who did it. There is a prequel to this novel named 'Abadoned on Everest', but "Murder on Everest' references the prequels story so you are not confused. Scott Devlon is the main character, and he is back to help find the murderer of Dereck Sodoc. Devlon was the last one to see Derek before his death, and the characters in this story are on a mission to bring his dead body down from Everest.

I enjoyed all of the characters, there was such a melting pot of personalities, some adding comic relief and others drama. You really get a feel for each character's internal and external struggles while on the mountain. Physical strength is not the only component in these adventures, you must be able to endure much more than that.

I recommend this book to readers who love an adventure story with some mystery.

Press Release from Cuenca, Ecuador

I am thrilled to be featured in a press release from my recent Project C.U.R.E. trip to Cuenca, Ecuador.   I am on the advisory board of directors for Project C.U.R.E. Phoenix and I have been trained and certified as a needs assessment representative for Project C.U.R.E. worldwide.

My missions to date have included Belize, Tanzania, Burkina Faso (West Africa), and now most recently Cuenca, Ecuador.  My job as an assessment representative is to insure the needs of the recipients -hospital and clinics- are met while meeting the requirements of local governments and officials.

As you can imagine the doctors and nurses are very excited by my visit as they hope to receive supplies and equipment that will help them better do their job and save lives.  While in Ecuador I met with several doctors and even the mayor.  The picture attached in this press release is of me around the table at the Hospital Municipal seated next to Dr. Patricio Luzuriago discussing the needs of their communities.

Alcaldía gestionó recursos internacionales para hospital de la Mujer y el Niño

La Alcaldía de Cuenca  gracias a la gestión realizada por la Dirección de Relaciones Externas firmó un protocolo de actuación entre la I. Municipalidad de Cuenca y la ciudad hermana de Tempe a través de la Corporación “Tempe Sister Cities”,  en el cual estas instituciones identificaron áreas de interés común para realizar actividades de cooperación internacional descentralizada. Para el efecto se han definido 5 ejes de trabajo: Salud, Educación, Cultura, Turismo y Manejo de Riesgos.

En este marco, la corporación internacional  a través de la ONG norteamericana  Project C.U.R.E. se comprometió en entregar  una donación  de  400.000 dólares, para el Hospital Municipal de la Mujer y el Niño. Los costos de traslado de insumos y equipos médicos  serán gestionados en un 100% por entidades y personas de Tempe por un valor aproximado de 25.000 dólares.
Para el cumplimiento de este acuerdo  se encuentra en la ciudad Charles Irion, miembro de la Junta Asesora de la ONG norteamericana Project C.U.R.E  para ejecutar una evaluación de las unidades de Salud municipales, en especial el Hospital Municipal de la Mujer y el Niño

La  organización Project C.U.R.E. con sede en Colorado ha sido el líder en el desarrollo de nuevas formas de permitir la organización para proporcionar la mejor calidad de donaciones de insumos y equipos posibles, así como oportunidades de voluntariado tanto nacionales como internacionales.

Project C.U.R.E. ha llegado a los más necesitados médicamente en más de 120 países de todo el mundo. La ONG internacional continúa ofreciendo salud y esperanza a sus asociados en todo el mundo.
