Supporting Sheriff Joe and his Program MASH

Hi Everyone!  Thank you for reading my blog!  Did you know that I'm the author of not just one, but thirteen books?  For more information, please visit www.charlesirion.com, www.irionbooks.com and/or www.summitmurdermystery.com

I attended a fundraiser for Sheriff Joe Arpaio at one of my many ventures, Meridian RV Park.  The fundraiser was to support his program to help abused animals, Mash -- www.mcso.org Arpaio's no-kill animal shelter, MASH, was created to house and care for dogs, cats and horses that have been abused or neglected by their caretakers and rescued by the Animal Crimes Investigations Unit.  The animals are then trained and cared for by inmates, then placed for adoption.

The purpose of the shelter is to provide a safe, healthy an healing shelter for these tragic animals, who must necessarily await the outcome of their owners' cruelty cases in court.  Arpaio hopes their ultimate outcome will be adoption into a loving, permanent home.

Meridian raised money for MASH by selling tickets to a luncheon where baloney sandwiches, chips and soda were served.  We had a great turn out!

I sat next to Sheriff Joe and gave him my card for the the murder mysteries and asked him to read them!

Hi Everyone!  Thank you for reading my blog!  Did you know that I'm the author of not just one, but thirteen books?  For more information, please visit www.charlesirion.com, www.irionbooks.com and/or www.summitmurdermystery.com

Back in the beginning of December, my friend Sandra and I picked up a Project C.U.R.E. kit to bring with us to Colombia.  You can see that post, HERE.  I was very excited to deliver the kit to the community and we did over Christmas!

It was a pleasure to meet the mayor and give him the kit.  Take a look at the pictures!

Passing Out Clothes to Children in Colombia

Hi Everyone!  Thank you for reading my blog!  Did you know that I'm the author of not just one, but thirteen books?  For more information, please visit www.charlesirion.com, www.irionbooks.com and/or www.summitmurdermystery.com

Over the holiday I spent a couple weeks in Colombia.  I had a wonderful time touring the country, experiencing their culture and visiting with the locals.  In a particularly poor part of town, small children have no clothes.  They literally play in the streets, naked.  Knowing this was the case, we visited several stores before we left the US gathering clothes to bring along with us to give to the children.

Visiting a school in Colombia and handing out new clothes to all of them was a wonderful experience. The children were then able to wear their new clothes to the New Year's Eve festivities that evening.  Seeing the happiness a simple shirt, pants, or dress can bring to a child, really drives home how much we take such simple things for granted.  The principle was there and 80 children were targeted for the donation.  While passing out the clothes, I spoke to the children about the importance of education.

Enjoy the pictures!

Colombian New Year's Eve Tradition

Hi Everyone!  Thank you for reading my blog!  Did you know that I'm the author of not just one, but thirteen books?  For more information, please visit www.charlesirion.com, www.irionbooks.com and/or www.summitmurdermystery.com

While spending time in Colombia with friends, I learned one of the unique traditions they have during New Years Eve.  To banish any ill fortunes or bad things that happened during the year, Colombians make scarecrows to place on their porch, they then write their wishes for the New Year on the scarecrow and at midnight, they burn it.   There are fireworks inside that go off when it's set on fire.  This is their way of representing out with the old, and in with the new!  I hope you all had a wonderful New Year celebration, I sure did!
