Entrepreneur and Award Winning Author Charles G Irion to Assist with Hundreds of Free Cataract Surgeries in the Philippines

Charles G. Irion, a Director of the Phil-Am Lions Club, along with members of the club, will be performing approximately 300 cataract surgeries. 

In February Charles G. Irion will be participating in a medical mission in Zambales, Philippines to provide free cataract surgeries to needy patients.  This is the 11^th cataract medical mission between the Philippines and Mexico.  Historically, the Phil-Am Lion’s Club always breaks their record.  In 2013, they helped 223 patients with vision screenings, leading a group of more than 10 volunteers.  The process is tedious, having to sort through thousands of glasses so that patients are given a pair of free corrective glasses after the surgery.  During their last mission over 9000 pair of glasses were dispensed!  Irion personally will be working with doctors to scan and give eye tests before and after surgery.  Project C.U.R.E. donated some of the medical supplies – Charles Irion is a Director of Project C.U.R.E.

Lion’s Club International was founded in 1917 by Melvin Jones from Arizona.  It’s the largest service humanitarian club in the world with a membership of approximately 1.3 million.  The current President of LCI, Joseph Preston is from Arizona as well.

Phil-Am Lion's Club of Arizona

On June 21, 2014 the Phoenix Phil-Am Lions Club will hold its annual Induction and Installation Ball at the Hilton Phoenix Airport.  This undertaking is partly a fundraising event to support the club's signature project - Medical Mission.  The upcoming one in 2015 would be the 11th betwen the Philippines and Mexico missions.  Last year we netted over $2000 and the celbration was attneded by family friends, supporters and cignitaries.  We were able to do the following with the funds: 223 cataract operations, 67 pterygiums, dispensed 9000 corrective glasses, identified school children with vision problems and screened over 300 patients for diabetes.

This year we're even committed to making a bigger success and I am hoping you will help.  The aim is to raise about $5000 and the funds will be used for the cataract and medical mission on February 15-20, 2015 in Zambales, Philippines.  The club always breaks its record and this tiime we hope to be able to help 250 blinded patients because of cataract.

In reciprocation to your kind favor, we will put your pictures, greetings and advertisements in the club's souvenir program.  We will be issuing a donation receipt for the entire amount as requested.  Raising funds for such a noble cause cannot be possible without your generous support and sponsorship.

I had the honor of attending a fund raising event with 3000 club to raise money for victims of the Typhoon.    The 3000 club is a great national and international group of like-minded individuals, small business owners, volunteers and non-profit agencies and organizations who bond together supporting its two flagship projects, Market On the Move and American Medical Aid.  Click the links below for more information...

 The event featured the amazing, Jessica Cox. Jessica is recognized internationally as an inspirational keynote speaker. Born without arms, Jessica now flies airplanes, drives cars and otherwise lives a normal life using her feet as others use their hands. She holds the Guinness World Record for being the first armless person in aviation history to earn a pilot’s certificate. Convinced that the way we think has a greater impact on our lives than our physical constraints, she chose to pursue a degree in psychology at the University of Arizona. Since then she has traveled to 20 countries sharing her inspirational message.

My New Adventure!

I am very excited to announce I was elected director of Phoenix Phil-Am Lions Club.  

The Phoenix Phil-Am Lions Club is part of an international network who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world.  I was previously elected president and treasurer of an affiliated club the Barangay Lions. The Phil-Am Lions Club is part of one of the world’s largest service club organizations , Lions Clubs International.  I previously participated as a translator during a cataract medical mission in Benjamin Hill, Sonora ,Mexico.

Everywhere the club volunteers go, they make friends, and communities get better.  The club helps wherever help is needed – in their own communities and around the world – with unmatched integrity and energy.  I am also on the planning committee for the February, 2015 medical mission to the Philippines.  This year they performed over 200 cataract surgeries, free of charge, to those in need!  I am proud to be a director of such a wonderful club, and I look forward to the exciting activities we have planned.
